About Whitney

Midwifery roots,
lactation expertise

Birth and lactation work, for me, offers a space to provide positive, person-centered care that empowers and uplifts families. My goal for clients are for them to feel held, seen, supported, and powerful.

I am a graduate of Birthingway College of Midwifery with a degree in midwifery, and have been serving families in community and hospital birth settings since 2017. In addition to working alongside Angela Truby at Glow Midwifery as an assistant midwife, I also served coastal families through my own practice, Harbor Midwifery.

Recently, I earned my IBCLC credential to further expand the care I provide to families. Throughout my years in practice, I saw a significant need for deeper lactation support and found myself wanting to offer more comprehensive care rather than referring clients elsewhere for feeding challenges. Becoming an IBCLC has allowed me to better support families throughout their feeding journeys and continue providing the individualized, relationship-centered care that is so important to me.

Born and raised in Oregon, I moved to Portland and have enjoyed a varied professional career including working as a chef, nanny, motorcycle instructor, midwife, and now lactation consultant. When not attending births, I spend my time engaged in various projects and learning ventures: stained glass crafting, singing in a choir, banjo picking, and my personal favorite — collecting new hobbies. For me, both professionally and personally, the excitement of change and the challenge of being flexible keep me engaged and refreshed.

In addition to providing lactation support and placental encapsulation services through Umbrella Lactation, I continue to attend births with Angela Truby at Glow Midwifery. You can find her at www.glowmidwifery.com.

Common questions

You might be wondering…

Do I need to be breastfeeding to work with you?+
Not at all. I support all forms of feeding — breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, formula supplementing, and combination feeding. I meet you where you are, without any agenda about how you "should" feed your baby.
Is this covered by insurance?+
At the moment I take OHP, and am working diligently to be in network with different insurance companies. I can provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please reach out and we can help you navigate this.
How soon after birth can I contact you?+
The sooner the better. Many families reach out within the first few days. Early support can make a significant difference, but it's never too late to ask for help.
Do you serve families outside of Portland?+
Yes! I serve Portland and the surrounding communities. Virtual consultations are available for families farther out. Get in touch and we'll figure out what works.
What should I expect during a visit?+
A typical visit lasts 1–2 hours and includes a conversation about your feeding history, a feeding observation, weight check for baby, and a personalized written care plan. There's no rush and plenty of time for questions.
